As any local will tell you, the Medina, or old town, is the most fascinating sight in Tangier. The medina of Tangier is a labyrinth of narrow streets perched on the hill above the harbor. Rue es-Siaghin descends from the Grand Socco to the Petit Socco, with side streets to the right brimming with shops. The main street of the medina leads to the Kasbah, the former Sultan's palace and the highest point in the medina. It offers breathtaking views of the ocean and the city. The gate opens onto a large courtyard, leading to the Dar el-Makhzem Palace and the contemporary Kasbah Museum.
